Thanet District Council – ‘Respect. Protect Enjoy.’ campaign

Following a long winter lock-down filled with endless anxiety-inducing messages I was briefed to create a campaign with a little more warmth and optimism to coincide with the easing of coronavirus restrictions and to welcome visitors back to Thanet.

A polite reminder.

The aim of the campaign was provide a warm welcome back to visitors along with a polite reminder to please ‘Respect’, ‘Protect’ and ‘Enjoy’ Thanet’s iconic towns, beaches.

The solution was a fun, optimistic and colour-filled illustration celebrating all things Thanet, featuring iconic landmarks from all three towns including the Lido (Margate), Bleak House (Broadstairs) and the Royal Marina (Ramsgate) with added sand, sea, sunshine and of course, seagulls. A kind of ‘Planet Thanet’. This was combined with the Respect Protect Enjoy headline to create an instantly recognisable lock-up / logotype that was used across a range of applications.

The campaign ran through the summer appearing on numerous printed and online applications, as well as t-shirts, flags, bin bag dispensers and even portable ash trays. I also worked with the brilliant Neil Grunshaw at Silver Machine to create an animated version of the illustration that was used across social media platforms.

The result was welcomed with huge enthusiasm and warmth from residents and visitors alike.

“Andy interpreted our brief (in a super tight time frame) with an illustration that was nothing short of spot on from the moment he shared the first concept! His designs have been received really well by our target audiences and attracted exactly the attention we were looking for.”
