Visitor interpretation panels – Commonwealth War Graves Commission
The CWGC care for some of the world’s most important, iconic cemeteries and memorials. I oversaw a comprehensive redesign of the information panels, helping visitors interpret and understand the vast and varied sites.
Colour and clarity.
CWGC’s existing panels had relied too heavily on lengthy written history and black and white archive imagery. I developed a brand new interpretive system and layout using bright illustrations front and centre to draw the visitors eye, supported by a brief history, an orientation map and stories of note. Finally, a timeline highlighting key events before and after the construction of the memorial.
I worked closely with AJ Wells, experts in printed vitreous enamel to develop a robust design for the panels that would work in a huge variety of climates and terrains and allow for quick and easy installation by CWGC’s teams around the world. The panels were produced using a mix of screen print in CWGC green for all text and annotation and high quality image transfers for images and illustration.
